from: The Best Tips On Last Minute Airfare Deals

The Best Tips On Last Minute Airfare Deals
By Serge Levi

With their super-busy schedules, many people find it difficult to plan for and book their holidays in advance. In such a scenario, the holiday breaks are generally shorter and are booked just 1 week to 2 weeks in advance (sometimes it could just be one day in advance). So, what you are looking for is last minute deals.

Some people rule out the possibility of getting any good deals (last minute deals) and just keep postponing their holidays for another time (and that time seldom comes). It’s true that most airlines offer the best deals only when you book a couple of months in advance, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot get good deals at the last minute.

The best way to start looking for last minute airfare deals is to look for them on the internet. There are several websites that offer last minute deals and if you exhibit enough patience, you can easily get a good deal. You can either go to airfare search websites that search for deals on just that website (single website) or you can go to one of those that check for airfares on multiple travel website. Quite clearly, latter is a better option than the former since it saves you a lot of time and effort. Moreover, fare comparisons are easier and better when you search on a multiple site airfare search engine.

If you are flexible in terms of date, time and stopovers of the flight, you stand a better chance of getting a good deal. So, try changing the dates and see if you can get better deals. Also, the midweek flights are generally cheaper than the weekend flights. In fact, you would find it quite difficult to get a good last minute deal for week end dates, unless it is off-peak time.

Another thing to remember here is the fact that most last minute deals are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are not absolutely sure of your travel plans, then don’t book the flight, or look for a flight that offers an option of getting a refund (at least some percentage of the fare) in case you need to cancel your flight later on. In such a case you might go for the next best deal (even if it is a bit costly than the best deal).

Booking hotel and car together with the flight can turn out cheaper than booking just the flight. So, if you will need a car and a hotel accommodation at your destination, it’s better to book everything together. Besides being cheaper, it is much more convenient too.

While comparing the airfares on last minute deals, do not forget to keep a tab on the reputation/credentials of the airlines that are associated with the various deals. Sometimes, traveling with an airline that has a bad reputation can actually cost you much more (in terms of lost time and spoilt holidays).

If you have a lot of time on hand (to do the research for best airfares), you can also go to the websites of individual airlines and check for cheap last minute deals. You might sometimes find better deals here than at other places.

Though the best thing to do is to book your air travel three to four months in advance, there are plenty of options available for the last minute traveler too. You just need to look for the deals. So, don’t cancel your vacation plans just yet; have a look at the last minute deals first before you decide against going ahead with your holiday plans.
